Okay, lets talk followers. Do they really matter?
This is an extremely controversial topic, and there’s a big debate on whether they really do matter, now in my opinion they don’t. Obviously having a following is nice and does benefit your brand/business in some way. But it really doesn’t matter if you have 10 followers or 5000 followers, the thing that does matter is your content and engagement.
When you post on Instagram, your posts can be seen 3 different types of ways; hashtags, home and profile. Instagram’s algorithm decides how many people are going to see your posts. So obviously creating content that your audience likes is great and by having followers, the content is right there in front of them on their homepage so they don’t need to go looking. This will then tell Instagram’s algorithm, people are liking the post due to read time, likes, saves and sends. Meaning it will be put in front of more people through the homepage, hashtags etc.
However overall followers don’t matter at all, if you have a 3000 followers but are only getting 14 likes on your posts this means your followers are not liking your posts, which likely means you aren’t going to be reaching many new people.
The amount of times I have gone onto a page and they have thousands of followers but not even 10% of these people are interacting with their posts, is crazy. This either means you are being followed by bot accounts, brought followers OR your audience just aren’t liking your content. (I will post another blog post on how to fix this issue so drop me a follow!)
One thing I always get is, how can I get thousands of followers, or people come to me with the expectation of getting thousands of followers within a few weeks or even overnight! Although you can suddenly go ‘Viral’ which is rare, Unfortunately it takes a lot of time and effort to get followers and build up engagement. It certainly isn’t an overnight thing, it can take months depending on your content, audience and niche. Another thing to remember is, algorithms are ALWAYS changing on Instagram, Facebook, etc. So just keep working hard and you will start to grow.
I would strongly advise focusing on engagement over followers! Focus on your content, how many people you are reaching and how many people are interacting. You will then see a dramatic increase in followers and CLIENTS/SALES!
Always remember that followers doesn’t mean clients. You need to build a relationship with your audience!
Focus more on engagement because the followers number doesn’t matter at all!
